Phax Mastering

Tom Haunstein has been the senior resident vinyl cutting and analogue mastering engineer at Leipzig-based Rand Musik since 2012. He cuts lacquers on a Neumann VMS70 and does Direct Metal Mastering (DMM) on a Neumann VMS82 lathe. Rand is one of the few cutting studios in the world to own a Neumann VMS82 and is therefore able to produce DMM cuts. In this process, the cut is made onto a copper blank instead of a lacquer.
